Steve has been at BCIT since August of 1990, first as a regular full time Assistant Instructor within the Renewable Resources Technology. After holding a variety of temporary Instructor positions within our program, Steve was regularized as a permanent full time Instructor in March of 2007.

Taco is an Instructor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology and has taught at BCIT since January of 2003. He is involved in the development of the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree here at BCIT including development of the program structure and the development of specific courses for the program. He was also involved in the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) process for Mechanical Technologies in 2004.

Teresa Place, Director , Treasurer

604.412.7558

Teresa is Technical Staff in the Medical Laboratory Science Program in the SOH. Since coming to BCIT in 1999, Teresa has been a Tech Rep, served on two Collective Agreement Committees, two Bargaining Teams and this will be her second time round as a Director for the FSA.

Teresa feels that BCIT has the potential to be an excellent place to work. However, a fair balance of work load throughout BCIT needs to be found so that we stop stressing out our new employees and keep them for the long term. Better access to our PD and a competitive wage would attract the best that BC has to offer.

Silvia Ursula Raschke, Director

604.412.7597

Silvia has been an employee of BCIT since 1988. Starting as an Assistant Instructor in the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department, she became a full Faculty Member serving as Program Head from 2000-2002. Between 1993 and 1997 Silvia took a PD Leave to earn a PhD in Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O). From 1997 to 2004 she was a split appointment between P&O and the Tech Centre and laid the foundation for the current proposal to move the P&O program to the Master's degree level. She also received a Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) grant to establish the Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering and Technology that Enables (CREATE) and joined the Technology Centre as a full time researcher in 2004. Silvia has been named a co-investigator/collaborator in several research projects applying rehabilitation engineering skills to solve workplace hazard problems in the areas of police and police dog work. Her committee work at BCIT includes membership on the Internal Panel (formerly the Technology Degree Committee) and various steering committees for research related initiatives.

Of particular interest to Silvia is the role research could/should play in future decades at BCIT with the understanding that BCIT has the opportunity to integrate 'applied' research into its culture in a way that universities and colleges are not able to. Her other area of interest is the promotion of a health and wellness culture at BCIT.
