New Part-Time Studies Collective Agreement Provisions

Financial Incentive

  • Bonus paid to all FSA members as of March 31, 2007
  • Up to $4,000 for a full-time employee
  • Bonus will be prorated based on hours from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007
  • PTS Instruction will be prorated with 585 contract hours equalling 100%
  • Non-Instructional PTS contracts prorated with 1820 hours equalling 100%
  • Payment is expected late in September

PTS Information

  • For the first time, the FSA will receive detailed information about PTS contracts
  • We will now be able to communicate directly with PTS members
  • PTS members will now be easily included in FSA activities like votes
  • The FSA will have more and much better information about PTS work, making us better able to represent members

PTS Parking

  • Some lots will be designated for use by PTS employees weekdays after 4:30 pm
  • Parking in these lots will be on a first come basis for those PTS employees who have a parking permit.
  • Designated lots will be:
    • Lot 8 between SE1 and SE6
    • Lot 16 near the Willingdon entrance (except for SA parking)
    • Lot 24 at the northeast corner of NE1

Training for PTS

  • Verbal agreement reached to allow PTS employees to request funding for BCIT PTS courses as employer directed training (past Article 10.10)
  • Requests should be made to the PTS Coordinator in your area

Re-appointment Rights

  • Right to re-appointment based on continued suitability and satisfactory performance

Health and Welfare Benefits

  • PTS Instructors are eligible to apply for basic medical, extended health, and dental coverage through BCIT
  • Monthly premiums will be paid by BCIT
  • Must have accrued 250 contract hours between June 1 and May 31 in any year
  • Must maintain 150 contract hours in subsequent years to continue coverage
  • Coverage ceases if there are no contract hours for five months

Grievance Procedure

  • Right to challenge decisions made about your employment at BCIT
  • Right to representation by the FSA in raising employment issues

Representation in Discipline Procedures

  • FSA representation is available if your performance or conduct are challenged

Participation in the FSA

  • Participate as members in FSA meetings and activities
  • Vote in FSA elections and contract ratification processes
  • Eligibility for election to the FSA Executive Committee as Director (Associate Members)
