FSA Member’s Film Showing at Festivals

FSA member’s film selected to screen at 2017 Kansas and Bahamas International Film Festivals

We are happy to announce that ASLEEP (an 11 min. short film) is officially selected to screen at both the 17th Kansas International Film Festival  (Nov 3-9 2017) and 14th Bahamas International Film Festival (Dec 10-17 2017).  Earlier this year, ASLEEP’s screenplay was also a semi finalist at 48th Nashville’s Film Festival (2017) screenplay competition.

ASLEEP’s is written, directed and produced by FSA member Mak Abdelhai, who teaches at Digital Arts as well as Broadcasting & Media Communication departments at the School of Business.

The film’s crew and postproduction teams include many of BCIT’s graduates such as:  Julien Gorguet & Alastiar Martin (Crew  – TV & Video Production Program), Brent Leung & Estefani Rangel (Post production & Website Development – New Media Design & Web Development Program).

The film’s story is about James, a freelance photojournalist who finds himself stuck in a life or death situation in war-torn Syria.

The film is made in honor of humanitarian aid works, wartime reports and photojournalists who risk their lives to help war victims and to tell us their stories. Namely, it’s in memory of Peter Kassig (1988-2014) and James Foley (1972-2014).
