Distinguished Alumni Award Winner 2026

Since 2014, the BCIT Faculty & Staff Association has partnered with BCIT and the BCIT Alumni Association for the Distinguished Awards by honouring an exceptional BCIT alumnus who returned to the Institute as an FSA member. The FSA’s Board of Directors is thrilled to announce Mike Battistel as the winner of our 2026 FSA Distinguished Alumni Award.
The Board was extremely impressed by Mike's nomination package, which demonstrated his leadership and commitment to advancing innovative and sustainable construction. As President of Cascadia Windows, he has guided the development of highly efficient window and cladding systems that have earned the company recognition as one of BC’s Top 20 Most Innovative Companies. His work on the Cascadia Clip, a thermally efficient cladding attachment system, has influenced industry standards and contributed to more sustainable building practices across the sector.
Alongside his professional achievements, Mike has spent more than two decades working in Part-time Studies at BCIT, blending advanced technical knowledge and teaching excellence. Mike's educational achievements include contributing to the creation of the ACED program, shaping curriculum development in Building Science and Engineering Technology, donating his time on evenings and weekends to teach industry courses, and developing technical publications for BC Housing. His commitment to community learning is also evident in his work delivering home inspection training programs to students in underserved communities, helping strengthen housing assessment skills in more remote areas.
The FSA Board is honoured to award the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award to Mike, and we look forward to celebrating his success publicly at the BCIT Distinguished Awards Gala this fall.
