All FSA members are employees of BCIT.
The FSA is a union made up of BCIT technology instructors, assistant instructors, technical staff, applied researchers, academic support staff, and a variety of auxiliary instructors and staff. The web of membership types and employee categories can be difficult to untangle unless you are aware of all the pieces.
It can also be unclear whether a particular assignment or course should be regular or temporary versus auxiliary. If in doubt, it never hurts to ask. If you are unsure what BCIT employee category you are in, contact BCIT Human Resources. If you think your FSA membership rights are being violated, please do not hesitate to contact the FSA.
The total membership fluctuates based on BCIT’s terms and levels of program delivery. In early 2021, the total FSA membership is around 1750 members. Approximately one third of that number is composed of individuals who hold Part-Time Studies (PTS) contracts or “Auxiliary Employees” (see below).
