    New BCITFSA Endowment

    New BCITFSA Endowment

The FSA is proud to announce that we have now officially established a new endowment to support the dependents of our members and retired members on their post-secondary academic journeys. The fund was born of a long-standing disappointment we’ve had at the bargaining table. The FSA has proposed tuition waivers for the dependents of members to BCIT, in various forms, dating back to the 1990s. We were told, time again, that the province had directed post-secondary institutions that there would be no more family waivers issued.

Out of these roadblocks, the FSA Board established the $75,000 fund in spring 2023, which will be awarded to two members’ dependents beginning full-time programs at BCIT each year, starting in the fall of 2024. “After many failed attempts in bargaining, I’m excited to announce the creation of this endowment on behalf of our Board of Directors,” said FSA President Colin Jones. “Annually, these awards will open doors to a BCIT education for the children of members that make BCIT work.”

Details on how to apply for the endowment will be forthcoming from BCIT’s Financial Aid and Awards.
