QPR for Suicide Prevention: You can save a life!

The FSA is co-hosting these sessions. Open to FSA members.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn how to prevent suicide, and will be particularly valuable for faculty and staff who work directly with students.

In a recent survey of over 30,000 Canadian post-secondary students, 13% of respondents had seriously considered suicide and 2% had made a suicide attempt in the past 12 months (ACHA-NCHA II, Spring 2016).

Like CPR, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is an emergency response that can save a life.

In this 90 minute session, you will learn how to:

    • Recognize someone at risk for suicide
    • Ask about potential suicidal intent
    • Listen and persuade someone to seek help
    • Access professional services on campus and in the community

Participants will have an opportunity to practice QPR skills and there will be time for Q&A at the end of the session.

Facilitator: Judy Bushnell, MA, CCC is a BCIT counsellor with over 20 years of experience in suicide prevention education and counselling.

Watch for future sessions coming soon!
