    Welcome to Michael Conlon!

    Welcome to Michael Conlon!

    Message from Colin Jones, FSA President

    As we announced on June 12th, the BCIT Faculty & Staff Association is welcoming a new Executive Director to our organization. Michael Conlon will start with us on Tuesday – August 4th – and we are looking forward to introducing him to all of you, even if only virtually.

    Michael’s unique blend of experience from the post-secondary and faculty association sectors within BC and across Canada brings a wealth of knowledge to the FSA office. Michael will be joining our staff team of professionals focused on representation, negotiation, and advocacy for all FSA members. You can read more about the experience that Michael brings to this work in our original hiring announcement.

    On behalf of the FSA’s Board of Directors and our entire membership of 1600+ faculty and staff working at BCIT, we are looking forward to Michael applying his knowledge of protecting and advancing working conditions in the post-secondary sector to further the FSA’s commitments towards:

    • fostering high standards of excellence in education;
    • improving members’ employment conditions, working environment, and opportunities;
    • maintaining transparency in FSA activities;
    • fostering a well-informed and engaged membership; and
    • promoting participation in decision-making; and nurturing a sense of community amongst our members and all of BCIT.

    “I am delighted to be taking up the role of Executive Director of the BCITFSA and I am honoured by the trust the Board of Directors has placed in me. I am excited to be returning home to British Columbia and can’t wait to get started on the work of navigating these challenging times with the dedicated team of staff and elected officials of the FSA. Despite the uncertainty and anxiety of the past few months, there is also a growing sense of solidarity and recognition of how connected we all are and I look forward to building on the great work the FSA has done to protect the rights of its members and to ensure that we are building something better than ‘business as usual’ when we emerge from this crisis.” Michael Conlon

    As the FSA President, I want to extend our warmest welcome to Michael and say that we look forward to working with him in a role that was so ably filled by our former, long-time Executive Director, Paul Reniers, and stewarded commendably by Interim Co-Executive Directors, Maria Angerilli & Kyla Epstein. As you encounter Michael in his work with the FSA, we hope that you will join us in welcoming him to our community.

    Welcome aboard, Michael!
